On Saturday, October 26, we held the final class of the HESEIA course, aimed at secondary school teachers in Córdoba. We are very happy! This extension course (RCD 205/2024) was carried out in collaboration with FAMAF – National University of Córdoba and the Ministry of Education of Córdoba.
Our initial goal was to involve 200 teachers in the project, but in less than 48 hours, 700 signed up! In total, we managed to engage 370 secondary school teachers, who could bring these practices into their classrooms. Half of the teachers were from the Social Sciences, and the other half from the Exact Sciences. Additionally, one-third of them taught in other cities of the province. We closed the course with 260 teachers, who worked on exploring biases with EDIA alongside 5,000 students. Another goal was to create resources to evaluate the behavior of AI systems that reflect our local realities. We included 45,000 linguistic expressions where biases are identified, with 80% created by students!
On Saturday, in addition to sharing what they had done in their classrooms, there was an awards ceremony! Out of the 48 nominees, 15 were recognized for their work. We also enjoyed the closing with the ‘A Otra Cosa Mariposa’ murga performance.
This interdisciplinary training experience involved specialists in digital law, education, and computer science, all thanks to an amazing team of people from various disciplines. This is just the beginning; one of our goals is to systematize and disseminate what has been accomplished so far, as well as to “Latinamericanize” this project.
📹 In the video, we recorded some teachers sharing their experiences of how they implemented the practice in each of the classrooms where they work. Each experience is unique, and it was impossible to capture everyone who took the course, making it difficult to choose. However, we are sharing some experiences where they address the critical use of artificial intelligence, the EDIA software tool, and some conclusions. We hope you enjoy it!
Thanks to everyone who was part of this project. We hope this experience inspires more people to take an active role in the face of AI. This was made possible thanks to the support of #DataFutureLab from Mozilla, the FAIR Network, DataEmpFund, and Google Academic.
