Massive Turnout for the Extension Course

EDIA

Can artificial intelligence have biases and stereotypes?

Yes. That’s why we created EDIA, a tool that enables you to uncover these biases without needing technical knowledge.

With over 500 registrants, the extension course “Tools to Explore Biases and Stereotypes of Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom” (RCD 205/2024 – FAMAF) began on Saturday, June 1st. The course is organized by the Faculty of Mathematics, Astronomy, Physics, and Computing (FAMAF), the Vía Libre Foundation, and the Ministry of Education of the Province of Córdoba.

Despite being held in the provincial capital, 34.1% of the registered teachers are from the interior of the province. Additionally, 55.6% acknowledge that they have never used AI tools.

Opening of the Extension Course

The opening was led by Juan Gabriel Daniel Scarano Tessadri, Director of Technology at the Ministry of Education of the Province of Córdoba, Patricia Silvetti, Dean of FAMAF, and Beatriz Busaniche, President of the Vía Libre Foundation.

After the opening remarks, Luciana Benotti and Emilia Echeveste kicked off the course. They introduced the teaching team and those who will be behind the tutoring sessions.

“The topics to be addressed range from practical applications that can facilitate teachers’ work using AI critically, to interacting with AI technologies without disguises to clearly see the risks,” said Luciana Benotti.

Dialogue Panel

The gathering and first class featured a Dialogue Panel: “Exercising Citizenship in Times of Artificial Intelligence” with experts on the topic: Jocelyn Dunstan, Rafael Calvo, Marcos Gómez, Laura Alonso Alemany, and Beatriz Busaniche, President of Vía Libre, as the moderator.

“Artificial Intelligence is an actor that will inevitably enter the classroom, which is why it is so important for this course to be developed,” said Rafael Calvo.

Accompanying Us

During the course, we will work with #EDIA, a tool created by Vía Libre, which operates in San Francisco, Córdoba and is primarily developed on open AI models but also compares models from CohereForAI.
